The contribution made by wetlands to regulate urban temperature minimizing urban air pollution and to store excess water restoring the environmental balance is immense, the Minister pointed out. Minister Ranawaka expressed these views while participating in the opening ceremony of Sri Lanka Land Reclamation and Development Corporation (SLLRDC) World Wetlands Celebrations – 2018 held under the theme “Wetlands for Sustainable Colombo” to mark the World Wetlands Day in Diyasaru Park in Thalawathugoda yesterday. The program was organized to mark the World Wetlands Day, which falls on 2nd February. A Wetland Biodiversity Workshop will be held on the 3rd February from 7 am to 5 pm at the Diyasaru Park. The program will include guided bird watching and butterfly walks, lectures on urban wetlands, wetland birds, fish, reptiles, fishing cats by local and foreign experts and kids programs and the entrance is free.
